The Moment Of Peace
Pictures from the 2011 Fire and Rain Annual ISGB Northwest Regional Retreat.
Well the new studio configuration is coming together. Between getting things set up I have been spending some time working on some positive and negative designs. Here is a little preview of the progress.
It has been cold up here in the Pacific Northwest this year and its time to get a better ventilation system. I have been working with a large whole house fan set up in a window. It does a wonderful job of ventilating the air in the studio but unfortunately when you are pushing a large quantity of air out, it needs to suck a large quantity of air in. Up until now, that has been provided by the outside air. This is very nice in the summer but brutal in the winter.
I have started assembling a new ventilation system with a proper squirel cage blower and a new supply of fresh air. I will post more pictures when the job is done and working properly.
I had the privilege to take a class from Kristina Logan this month. This was a double treat since the class was hosted at Heather Trimletts studio at Blue Dolphin Stained and Beveled Glass in sunny San Diego and she was there to also provide demonstrations and additional insight. As a added bonus, we were invited for a special dinner at her home.
For those who have not had the pleasure to meet either one of them, I can assure you they are both as nice and helpful as they are talented.
The class was 2 days with the first focused on making cabochons. Various techniques and ways of making them were demonstrated and practiced in the studio. The second day we were shown the fundamentals of preparing, sawing, filing, soldering and polishing silver to create a ring and set our newly made cabochons in it.
I added on a few days to the trip, to let my feet thaw out a bit, and have a few pictures to share of the San Diego area.
ps: If you have some pictures that you would like added, please contact me.
